Building Long-Lasting Media Relations
Jan is a multi-year veteran of media relations and holds a bachelor’s degree from the top-ranked University of Missouri School of Journalism. Her upbringing as the daughter of a radio journalist and a granddaughter of a print journalist gives her a keen understanding of the professional requirements of reporters. She brings substantial agency experience to develop and spearhead media strategies to achieve high-profile visibility outcomes for corporations and organizations, their executives, their brands, and products.
Jan melds her background, degree, and real-life experiences together to deliver excellent counsel and coaching to her clients. Never resting on her laurels, she continues her relationship-building with top-tier journalists and editors. Her professionalism produces results – news, feature stories and thought leadership profiles - for Fortune 50 and non-profit clients. On the world stage, she has designed and implemented media strategies for executives attending the World Economic Forum and positioning each as the leading voices for their industries. Her executive-level media training skills make her an essential coach to C-Suite executives and organization leaders to effectively deliver their perspectives.
In addition to securing news coverage, her ability to weave together multiple aspects of a story into feature coverage has produced results in the New York Times, Fortune, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fast Company, Bloomberg Businessweek, TIME, and national broadcast and podcast programs.
Previously, working at a global public relations agency, she mentored nearly 100 junior professionals through one-to-one counseling and collaborated with colleagues to create a media skills training module to help more colleagues achieve certification. Outside the agency, she has been tapped for her expertise. She developed and taught a course “Media Relations in Times of Crisis and Uncertainty” at the University of San Francisco and received praise from students.
Jan is the proud mother of an adult son.
